Baptism is a 'sacrament': a visible sign of God's love. In baptism, we are thanking God for his gift of life and publicly acknowledging his love. We are acknowledging that we all need to turn away from the darkness of evil and to make a new start with God. We have Baptism services for both children (for which it is often referred to as 'Christening') and adults, for whom it is normally undertaken soon before the service of Confirmation led by the Bishop. Baptism services are normally held during one of the Sunday morning services.
As an alternative to Baptism for a child, you can choose the Thanksgiving for the Gift of a Child. This service is designed to meet the needs of:
* parents who see this as a preliminary to Baptism
* parents who do not wish their children to be baptised immediately;
* others, who do not ask for Baptism, but who recognize that something has
happened for which they wish to give thanks to God.
If you wish to discuss any of these services then please contact the Assistant Minister.
